How much council tax reduction do you get for living with someone on benefits?
Q. I work but my partner is on benefits, how much reduction should I expect?
Asked by Spiky - Thu Feb 19 09:51:29 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm not sure you'll get any reduction, unless you earn a lot less than the threshold they have for benefits, and that level is very low. A single person earning a low wage can't get any benefit, and as the charge is for the house not the amount of occupants I fear you'll be liable. If your partner was a student he'd be exempt and you'd get a single person's rate, which is a 25% reduction, but not if they are on benefits. It is worth applying though, as if your wages are low you may get it.

What are the pros and cons to a breast reduction?
Q. I am considering a breast reduction. I want to know all the possiblities. Also what is the recovering time? What time frame would I need to be off work?

A. Pros: smaller bras, no back pain, no shoulder pain, can buy bras in stores and NOT special order them, a $50 bra is only if you get a really fancy one and not a granny bra, no back pain Cons: NONE! I had it Feb 2006 and don't regret it one bit! You should take off at least two weeks, more if you are in a physically active job as you do not want to move your arms too much. FULL recovery can take up to a year, do NOT put your scars into the sun until they turn white, or they will turn permanently red!

What is the difference between Principal Reduction and Additonal Payment for my mortgage?
Q. I just recently bought my first condominium, and I am paying my first mortgage bill. On the bill, it has a box that says: application of extra money ('X' check one) __ principal reduction (C) __Additional payment (P) I am wondering what is the difference between the two and if anyone has any suggestions on which one I should check? Thanks!

A. Check Principal Reduction. If you do this at least 1x every year you will save a lot of interest in the long term. If you look at the numbers, the initial principal amount is very small and you can pay some every month in the beginning. It saves a lot in the long term. Don't let anyone tell you that you need the interest deduction. That is money that you never have to spend and you can keep it instead of being able to deduct 15% or 28%- whichever is your tax bracket. I wish I had known this in the early years of my mortgage! Congrats on your new home!.
